London’s Best Wedding Venues

The best and most unique London wedding venues are hugely varied in terms of location, capacity and vibe. There really is something for everyone. From contemporary venues to historic venues. Industrial venues to elegant venues. Venues that host 250 and venues that are more suited to an intimate wedding with just a handful of guests (hi, COVID weddings, I’m looking at you). For me, it doesn’t matter how costly or how grand a venue is in order for it to be up there with my favourites. The best London wedding venues have great light, good indoor (and sometimes outdoor) space. Not forgetting that certain something which makes it special and unique. These are the venues I love returning to. 

In this post, I’ll show images from weddings at some of my favourite London venues and town halls. You’ll be able to click through to a longer post full of useful information and photos I’ve taken at each venue. Not only that, I’ll share what I think makes each venue so special. Having been a London wedding photographer for over 15 years, I’ve got plenty of experience working at many of the capital’s best venues and town halls. The quirkiest, the coolest, and the most unique London wedding venues. I’ve included details for each venue but please always refer to the venue’s own website for up to date info. Weddings at The Asylum Chapel

Run by Mavericks Projects, the Asylum in Caroline Gardens is a favourite amongst many wedding photographers. It won’t be everyone’s cup of tea: if your idea of a great venue is a modern and contemporary building with pristine fixtures and fittings, maybe drop this one from your list. Next on my list of London’s best wedding venues is the magical Wilton’s Music Hall

Weddings at Wilton’s Music Hall

A similar vibe to The Asylum, Wilton’s Music Hall has a rich history. Behind an unassuming facade and tucked away on an alleyway in East London, its peeling pastel paint is the only thing that might pique your interest as you walk by. Don’t let the outside fool you into thinking there is not much behind that wooden front door: step inside the tardis, people! Wilton’s is a labyrinth of rooms with wonky floors and interesting names (Champagne Charlie Room being just one). The main auditorium where wedding ceremonies and the wedding dinner/dancing are held is, in my opinion, jaw-dropping. It’s almost otherworldly, like something from a film or a fairytale. Next up on my list of unique London wedding venues is Trinity Buoy Wharf

Weddings at Trinity Buoy Wharf

This fab riverside venue comprises two very different spaces: The Chainstore at Trinity Buoy Wharf and The Electrician’s Shop. I’ve photographed weddings at both venues, and although they share the same riverside location, they are very different in terms of space, light, and vibe. The Chainstore and outside river terrace are amazing for summer weddings and have amazing indoor and outdoor space.

In brief, The Chainstore is a ground level, light and airy, industrial space. The Electrician’s Shop is basement level, cosy, intimate and a little smaller. Calling all plant lovers! The Barbican Conservatory is an absolute gem of a venue

Weddings at The Barbican Conservatory

Next on my list of London’s coolest wedding venues is The Barbican Conservatory. This venue is a perfect blend of two things I adore: plants and Brutalist architecture. I absolutely love photographing weddings at The Barbican, and I think it’s safe to say it’s one of London’s most unique wedding venues. Next up is venue with an industrial vibe and reclaimed decor. Step inside Clapton Country Club

Weddings at Clapton Country Club

Don’t let the name fool you, this is ain’t no country club ( I apologise in advance if you now have Sheryl Crow playing in your head). Clapton Country Club is a very cool, industrial venue in East London, full of personality and eclectic style. Another industrial gem right in the heart of Brixton, the versatile 100 Barrington.

Weddings at 100 Barrington

100 Barrington was built in 1879 and used to be a furniture factory. It’s now a very cool wedding and events venue in the heart of Brixton. A versatile space, you have the option of an indoor or outdoor ceremony. There’s an industrial vibe with lots of original exposed brick, rustic wood, a raw concrete floor and twinkling fairy lights. A partially covered courtyard make it a great all-weather venue. Comfy Chesterfields, lots of plants and the option of choosing your own caterers make this a great option for a south London wedding venue.

Staying south of the river with the Art Deco architecture of Eltham Palace

Weddings at Eltham Palace

This English Heritage venue is on my list mainly because of its stunning Art Deco entrance hall. Step inside this circular, wood-panelled room and you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into an episode of Poirot or onto a 1930s ocean liner. It has been used as a filming location numerous times, for big-hitters such as The Crown, Miss Marple, Poirot, Brideshead Revisited, Stan & Ollie, even Guy Ritchie’s Revolver. This is by no means an exhaustive list of London’s best wedding venues, but a few of my personal favourites. All of the London wedding venues listed above are able to host both the ceremony and reception, except The Asylum which is ceremony/drinks reception only.

London’s Best Wedding Reception Venues

We’re not done yet! The following venues are some more of my favourite, unique London wedding venues. They are mostly used for receptions, although ceremonies are possible at some of them.

Weddings at Brunswick House

Brunswick House is an incredible Grade II listed Georgian mansion. Incongruously situated on the roundabout in Vauxhall, and practically next-door neighbours to MI6, it is an architectural gem filled with a treasure trove of delights. There are a number of rooms, all with their own individual personality and feel, and with different guest capacities. You can hire the whole building or just a floor. Brunswick House is the ideal reception venue for a wedding ceremony at The Asylum and for many of London’s Town Halls, particularly Lambeth, Marylebone and Chelsea. Weddings at Paradise by way of Kensal Green

I absolutely love this pub in west London. The decor is so beautiful and it’s a perfect venue for a laid back wedding. There are a number of different rooms, all with a different vibe. It’s incredibly photogenic, having amazing lighting, gorgeous colours and textures. Also licensed for wedding ceremonies, so you could have your whole day here. Weddings at Islington Metalworks

A very cool, industrial wedding venue in Islington. It has a late license of 2am so ideal if you are party animals who don’t want the music switching off too early. It’s another venue which has a rich history. Originally, it was used to stable the horses that pulled the trams for the very early London Transport. Converted into a metalworks in 1925, hence its name. It’s a really unique, photogenic space. It’s walking distance from Islington Town Hall making Islington Metalworks an ideal reception venue for a ceremony there. Click the link below to read more.

Weddings at The Union Club

Nestled in the heart of Soho, the Union Club is a hidden gem, a really unique London wedding venue. Built in 1736, it has been a brothel, a gambling and drinking den, and no doubt its walls have many stories to tell. It’s a Bohemian and eclectic private member’s club that hosts intimate weddings. The dining room seats up to 60, and is a cosily intimate room filled with mismatched pictures. Cosy and with low lighting, it’s a perfect winter wedding venue. The club recently acquired the building next door and has turned it into a light and airy warehouse space. So two distinct vibes set over 4 floors and a cute little roof terrace. I have worked at all of these unique London wedding venues, which is why they are on my list of favourites. I have a wishlist of more amazing venues which I have yet to work at, but would really like to! These include Petersham Nurseries, MC Motors, and One Friendly Place.
