Perseverance Works Wedding // Steph & George

London is full of interesting, quirky, industrial spaces in which to hold a wedding reception. Manicured gardens, fancy crockery and vases full of white roses are very pretty, but they are not for everyone. For informal wedding receptions where the focus is on having a good time, but without the structure of seating plans and a sit down dinner, Perseverance Works in Shoreditch is perfect. Steph and George chose First Option Studio, a converted Victorian zip and suspender factory no less, to hold their wedding reception. During the day it’s flooded with natural daylight, then at night it twinkles with fairy lights and strings of festoon lights. The day started at the girls’ flat in south London, where they got ready with friends before we took cabs to Stoke Newington Town Hall, with a pit stop at the pub over the road. Stoke Newington is one of my favourite town halls; it’s a gorgeous 1930’s building with dark wood panelling and amazing floor to ceiling windows.

Stoke Newington Town Hall Wedding Ceremony Venue

The light in there is always really special. Steph and George walked down the aisle hand in hand to clapping, cheering and whooping, and the ceremony got underway. Once the register had been signed and some tissues were found to sort out the tearful George’s mascara malfunction, it was outside into a volley of confetti and congratulatory hugs from their friends and family. Next stop was Perseverance Works for a champagne reception and amazing food put on by the brilliant Disappearing Dining Club. The evening passed with speeches from the girls’ dads and their two best men, magic tricks by the talented Maddox Magic and an impressive fire dancing performance from one of Steph & George’s friends. There was so much I loved about this wedding, from the laid back getting ready together in the morning, the celebratory feel of the ceremony, the intimate and cosy vibe of the reception. Mostly though, it was the warmth of Steph and George and their families and friends that made it such an enjoyable day and a pleasure to photograph. Favourites from their Perseverance Works wedding are below.
