Moth Club Wedding

Moth Club wedding

Moth Club in Hackney is an uber cool spot to hold your wedding reception. Retro lovers and anyone who appreciates old school working men’s clubs will love it. From the glittery wallpapered ceiling, to the metallic tinsel streamers adorning on the stage. The upstairs bar with its red velvet banquette seating, questionable carpet, and paintings of Churchill on the wood panelled walls. It’s a trip back in time. There’s a photobooth and staff will give you free earplugs if the music is too loud. The drinks are cheap, the acoustics are great, and you can order in pizza to feed your hungry pals as the evening goes on. Wedding Photography at Moth Club, Hackney

Steff and Graeme’s Moth Club wedding was all about good food, good music and good times with family and friends. Their day started at Southwark Registry Office for their intimate ceremony, before walking to The Camberwell Arms for lunch. A great independent neighbourhood pub renowned for it’s excellent food and a veritable feast was had by all. A few speeches peppered the lunch before a Routemaster took everyone to Moth Club for the evening party. Ice cream on arrival, pizza mid way through, and all sorts of shenanigans on and off the dance floor. Moth Club – The Memorable Order of Tin Hats – is an ex-servicemen’s club originally opened in 1972. It’s a well loved Hackney institution now hosting drag nights, comedy nights, and live music. A perfect playground for a documentary wedding photographer like me.

Moth Club is currently in danger of being closed down due to new building planning proposals. Grass roots venues like this should be preserved at all costs! You can sign the petition to save Moth Club from redevelopment here .

We came across Lyndsey by chance, but we are so glad we found her for our wedding. After a quick look at some of her past work, we knew immediately that she was the right photographer for us. With so many plates spinning, we were grateful for Lyndsey’s quick and clear communications, her invaluable advice, and of course her incredible energy on the day. Lyndsey managed to capture the day perfectly – from the subtle scenes that no one else noticed, to all of the major moments like vows, speeches and entrances. One of the biggest compliments we can pay her is that we realised when looking through the photos that we had barely noticed her during the day – she seemed to know where to be at all times without drawing attention. As a couple who appreciate an artistic and sideways look traditional situations, Lyndsey’s honest, humorous and considerate style was perfect and we absolutely love what she was able to capture. We couldn’t recommend Lyndsey enough!

What is the vibe of Moth Club?

In short, brilliant. Think retro, 80’s style cabaret. As one google reviewer puts it, “It may look like a location for a wedding reception in a Mike Leigh film, but the beer is decent and the atmosphere bang on”. If you don’t like cookie cutter, bland and sterile looking wedding venues, Moth Club may be right up your street.
