LEWES TOWN HALL WEDDING // CAT & JAKE
Cat & Jake’s Lewes Town Hall wedding was a super relaxed day with the focus on family, good friends and good food. They got in touch after seeing my photos from Ali & Nick’s Brighton wedding where Jake had been best man, and I was honoured to be asked to cover their own day. My invite came through the post – a beautiful pencil drawing by Jake, an amazing artist – and in no time at all the day itself arrived.
It was warm and sunny, a perfect June day when I arrived with Cat and her bridesmaids on the morning of the wedding. Cat was 7 months pregnant and looked gorgeous – she’d picked her wedding dress before she’d found out she was expecting, but thankfully the style of dress meant she could still wear it. On to Lewes Town Hall for the ceremony and then Champagne and strawberries in Southover Grange gardens afterwards to celebrate. The day was split into a few parts, and lunch was at the Limetree Kitchen, a beautiful little independent restaurant where the head chef had created a menu specially for Cat & Jake. It was all local and seasonal produce and was delicious! Speeches were emotional (Cat’s dad) and outrageous (Jake’s best man) and featured hoots of laughter and tears in equal amounts.
On to the evening celebrations which took place in The Kings Head, a local pub. Garlands of paper hearts of Shakespeare’s sonnets were hung, the cakes were constructed and decorated by the mums, and balloons were blown up in anticipation of the evening guests. It was very much a team effort! It stayed warm all evening, the beer garden was full, the booze flowed and the party lasted well into the night.
