East Quay Wedding // Whitstable Weddings
Whitstable, the idyllic little seaside town on Kent’s north coast, is an amazing location to get married, and an East Quay wedding has it all; beach location, rustic wooden floored interior, oysters and the best sunsets in the world (I may be biased as I live just round the corner, but they really are spectacular). Ellie & Alex got married last August, and their wedding comprised two very special and very different days; an intimate ceremony at Islington Town Hall attended by just their immediate family and followed by a champagne lunch at Upper Street restaurant Hoxter & Porter, and a bigger wedding at the East Quay, officiated by Ellie’s cousin Cristabel, a couple of days later.
Having photographed the legal part on the Wednesday, it was lovely turning up at their amazing rented beach house on the Friday, and seeing how excited they were. The legal ceremony had been very laid back and relaxed, with just Ellie & Alex and 10 family members, and on the Friday they were joined by friends, with everyone getting ready together. A sunny stroll down the beach and on to East Quay where their guests waited upstairs overlooking the sea, the couples’ arrival heralded by their littlest flower girl who pelted down the aisle at 100mph. Ellie & Alex walked in together, and the ceremony conducted by Cristabel was personal and had everyone laughing, especially the group singalong to Andy Williams’ ”Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” which was brilliant (and a last minute decision – they were hurriedly printing off the lyrics just moments before leaving the house for the ceremony)
Back out into the sunshine under a shower of confetti, and everyone enjoyed an afternoon of sun, the sea breeze and some champagne and oysters ( OK, maybe not everyone enjoyed the oysters…) Dinner was big sharing plates and whole cheesecakes with bowls of berries; a very convivial way to eat. As the sun started to set we nipped out for some portraits. Having a couple of minutes alone together on your wedding day is important, and if you can do it with the sand in your toes and the sky on fire, even better.
Back inside, Black and Gold got the party started and everyone on the dance floor. An amazing time with Ellie & Alex at their East Quay wedding.
