The conservatory at The Barbican is the most wonderful backdrop for a wedding photographer to work with. Rich greens, an abundance of light, and the Brutalist concrete create an amazing, textural colour palette. It’s undoubtedly one of my favourite London wedding venues to photograph at. Rosie & Jason met whilst working at The Barbican, and so when they planned their wedding, The Barbican Conservatory was the perfect choice for them. They are both artists, and their creativity weaved its way through their day, which had a tropical theme and a riot of rich colour.

There was a DIY theme to the wedding, with Rosie’s mum making the gorgeous, oversized yellow silk dresses for the bridesmaids & Rosie’s friend making her 3 piece wedding trouser suit. Tropical themed flower arrangements were made by their friends at Hoxton Triffids, and flower garlands were made by Yan Skates.

They had a celebrant-led ceremony by the Barbican’s theatre producer, with some Hindu traditions (a nod to Jason’s Mauritian heritage), and a drinks reception with music by the excellent Peckham String Quartet. Dinner and speeches took place on the Barbican Conservatory Terrace, and then an evening of entertainment provided by friends and family, including some brilliant singing and a gymnastic performance worthy of the BGT Gold Buzzer. The cherry on this fabulously DIY wedding cake was, in fact, the heaving cake table, with creations of all shapes and sizes lovingly baked by their family and friends. Over 20 cakes were laid out in the evening, so there really was something for everyone, and the sugar-crazed kids were in their element.
