Tipi Wedding Photography // Rachelle & Rory
I first met Rachelle when she was doing wedding hair for Frankie, a lovely bride who’s Newland Hall wedding I photographed in the summer of 2014. I didn’t know it, but Rachelle had recommended me to Frankie when she saw the photos I had taken of her friend Janine’s wedding back in 2011. Confused yet? Really, all of this is just back story. This story here is the day Rachelle got married to Rory; on the first day of August, in a tipi wedding in a field in rural Essex, with tin buckets of booze, a beaten up old Defender and tables festooned with taxidermy birds and squirrels.
My day started at Rachelle and Rory’s house, a hive of activity with the bridesmaids (Rachelle’s pregnant, highly emotional best friend and Rory’s 3 sisters) and the bride getting hair and makeup done. We took taxis to the church, St Michael’s in Daws Heath, where a nervous Rory was waiting. A beautiful ceremony with laughter and tears, and then drinks and nibbles and a very chilled afternoon in the sunshine before dinner and speeches.
The sun began to set and the lights in the tipi were twinkling as the couple took to the floor for their first dance, performed by Rachelle’s brother, Ali, and his band (multi talented as not only is he a musician but also made the Dr Augustus hot sauce table favours for the wedding, served in cute little medicinal bottles). The party continued with cheese and cake to fortify everyone. A really fantastic day with this brilliant couple, their family and friends. Favourites are below.
“Oh my god.
That is incredible….. You just made us both cry! So many bits of the day just in that slide show that we hadn’t been able to see for ourselves and just what a magical day it was….
There was never a doubt in my mind that I wanted you as our photographer and this just proves why.
Thankyou so much!” – Rachelle & Rory
