Best Wedding Photography of 2021
Where do I start with my best wedding photography of 2021 post? After a tumultuous 2020, where just two of my booked weddings went ahead, and 24 of my couples rescheduled their big day, 2021 was always going to be a very busy year. After a shaky start, with tough restrictions continuing well into spring, my season finally kicked off at the end of May. Maths is not my forte, but I photographed 50% more weddings than in a normal year, which were crammed into 6 months rather than 12. What a ride.
Weddings in 2021 looked very different depending on what stage of restrictions we were in. I found it crazy going from weddings of 15 where the couples’ parents couldn’t even sit together and strips of tape marked the spot where your chair had to stay, to weddings with well over a hundred, and dance floors that made you forget 2m distancing had ever been a thing. And all in the space of a couple of weeks. To say it has been amazing to see weddings happening again would be an understatement. As a documentary wedding photographer, I’ve always felt it a privilege to document the gamut of emotions seen at weddings. However, to witness this after over a year of separation, and weddings that have been postponed multiple times, is magical.
100 OF MY FAVOURITE DOCUMENTARY MOMENTS FROM 2021
Many of my weddings took place in London at favourite venues such as The Asylum and Trinity Buoy Wharf. I also visited favourite venues dotted around the UK including Lime Wood & The Dreys. Not to mention fantastic new (to me) venues, including Elmley, Yoghurt Rooms, Voewood, BAC, and the River Cottage. As always my couples wowed me with their individuality and creativity. From a boho Persian wedding on a Kent nature reserve to an acid bright wedding with a Bon Jovi singalong. A rock and roll wedding with a white Mustang and a live performance from the groom. Not to mention a number of weddings in back gardens!
2021 was also another great year for industry recognition. I was named as one of the Top 10 Wedding Photographers in the World for 2021 by the WPJA. The third time I have had the honour of being on this list! In addition This Is Reportage named me as one of the Top 100 Photographers and Top 25 Storytellers in the world.
Genuine emotion, strong composition and above all, humour, are the cornerstones of my work. Hopefully, you’ll see all of this (and more!) in my Best Wedding Photography of 2021 post. A massive thank you to all of my 2021 couples for allowing me to tell your story. The link to my Best Wedding Photography of 2020 post is at the end of this one; be sure to check it out!
I hope you enjoyed this round up of images from 2021 and it’s given you a good idea of my style and how I document a wedding. You can see my favourite ‘Best Of’ posts from previous years below, and if you like what you see, drop me a line!
Fantastic work Lyndsey. Looks like a great year. Congratulations and have a cracker in 2022 ๐
Wow! Lyndsey, what a set! So many great frames, it’s hard to pick favourites.
Incredible work Lyndsey, loved every capture. What a year!
Another fabulous year Lyndsey, so good to see you are back shooting!! That newspaper frame is perfection, and love the slide shot!
What a year dude, your skills have clearly not diminished in the time off! Really enjoyed going through this, and thought the cab-ride bookending was a nice touch as well ๐
Incredible body of work Lyndsey! The slide shot is perfect! So many stellar images here my friend xo
The absolute business. Consistently brilliant moments and composition, plus I love the colours. Rarely is photography so entertaining. Newspaper man, curtain girl and bride’s leg as she gets into the white sports car are my personal faves.
We’re wedding togs and honestly, just doing some snouting about to see what everyone is up to…this blog stopped us in our tracks. You nailed it, bloody marvelous!
