Best Wedding Photography of 2020

Surprised to see a Best Wedding Photography of 2020 post from me? Me too! Other than two pre-pandemic weddings, every single one of my 2020 couples postponed or cancelled. All but one couple (shout out to Camilla and Will!), that is. They shifted their July wedding to December, swopped the fields of Sussex for the streets of Stoke Newington, and cut their guestlist down to just 15. Not the wedding they’d initially planned but it was an incredibly fun and intimate celebration.

Despite the start of the year being an absolute sh*tshow – let’s not mince words, here – 2020 actually turned out OK! Although all my booked weddings had to postpone, I took a handful of small, covid compliant bookings between September and December. Many of them organized at a moment’s notice. Many of them re-arranged and re-imagined as the rules and restrictions changed literally days before the events took place.

Whether there are 100 people at a wedding or just 10 there are still moments of happiness & jubilation to capture.  Of course there was a distinct lack of physical human contact at 2020 weddings. The disappointment and sadness of not having loved ones present was palpable. Whether that was due to relatives who were shielding, or entire families living overseas, their absence was clearly felt. 2020 was the year of the zoom call. For weddings it enabled families and friends to tune in from the other side of the world and see their loved ones say “I do”. My storytelling approach ensured that those who couldn’t be there in person could feel as though they were.

So here’s my Best Wedding Photography of 2020 post. The images from covid weddings starkly juxtaposed next to pre-pandemic weddings. However there was no shortage of beautiful moments at these scaled down weddings. Moments that would never have happened were it not for COVID. First dances in the street, vicars & waiters in masks, walking down the aisle alone, having your happy faces reflected back to you in the plexiglass screen.

(And despite the pandemic, I still managed to make it onto this list of Best Wedding Photographers in the UK for 2020!)
