Portmeirion Wedding Photography // Liz & Derek

I’ve been intending to share some images from Liz and Derek’s Portmeirion wedding for a while, and the fact that they will be celebrating their second wedding anniversary soon shows just how long I’ve had these good intentions. Anyway, better late than never, and despite the fact that these images were taken almost 2 years ago, Portmeirion won’t have changed. It will still be the slightly quirky, slightly unexpected pretty pastel town perched on a peninsula of the North Wales coastline, where it has been since its conception in 1925 by Welsh architect, Clough Williams-Ellis. There’s much to love about Portmeirion. It produces world-famous pottery, Festival Number 6 was held there, and The Prisoner, the slightly surreal 1960’s drama, was filmed there. It’s also a pretty special place to hold your wedding celebrations, as Liz and Derek will attest to.

Documentary Wedding Photography in North Wales

So in August 2017, Liz & Derek had their wedding at Portmeirion. Their ceremony was held in the fabulous Hercules Hall. Stunning dark wood panelled walls and huge, leaded windows create a dramatic atmosphere and beautiful light. There were drinks outside overlooking the vast grey skies. (Déjà vu as it was identical weather at a previous Portmeirion wedding I photographed, Jack & Laurie back in 2014). After that, an amazing dinner in the Tiffany-blue, Art Deco dining room. As well as being a full-time mum to their incredibly cute toddler, and working full time, Liz managed to find time to bake and ice all of their wedding cupcakes. Strong organisational skills!

The evening party was back in the Hercules Hall, and it was great to catch up with the Indie Killers. I last had the pleasure of working with these guys at a wedding back in 2013. They had everyone on the dancefloor (and jumping off tables) all night.

I was ably assisted with this Portmeirion wedding photography by my wingman, Stephen Bunn Photography. We love the opportunity of working together, so any couples out there wanting to commission us both, do get in touch!

Favourites are below, and hopefully, it won’t be too long til I return to this magical coastal town.

  1. Such a great documentary coverage Lyndsey! You’ve captured so many great moments and I love the way you layer some of the images.
