Chalkney Water Meadows is an outdoor wedding venue in Essex and a great choice for a laid back celebration. It’s the perfect location and set up for a DIY wedding, and particularly suited to a summer wedding. With a beautiful little decked pontoon for an outdoor ceremony by the lake, and an open-sided marquee for the wedding meal and dancing. A fire pit completes the festival vibe.
A short stroll across the meadow are a couple of gorgeous self-catering cabins (with hot tub, tick!) so both of you can stay the night before the wedding and get ready with your mates. Guests can stay too, as there are bells tents and showers – in a converted horse box, no less.
Below are photos from two weddings I’ve photographed at Chalkney Water Meadows. First up, Millie & Tom, who got married there in July 2022, followed by Susie & Chris who had their wedding there in July 2023. Both of these couples had a friend lead the ceremony, which was so lovely. Susie & Chris had their dog as guest of honour, and Millie & Tom had their little girl. All the heart eyes.

Browning Bros Wedding
Some photos from Susie & Chris’ summer wedding at Chalkney Water Meadows. They used both of the lakeside cabins on the morning of the wedding, and were glad of the stretch tent when the heavens opened mid way through the drinks reception.

- Triple marquee which can seat 150 comfortably, or 180 at a squeeze. Note that in summer it gets HOT in there, so try to keep your daytime guest list on the lower end.
- Glamping accommodation so your guests don’t have to go home when the party ends.
- Additional stretch tent to use in case of wet weather or as a shade cover in the sun.
- Lakeside spot for the wedding ceremony.
- Fire pit.
- Music/DJ allowed til 11pm (no live bands).
- Plenty of catering suppliers to choose from.
