Whitehouse Rye Wedding

Rye is a favourite place of mine. In our early days of dating, Steve and I would visit to wander around the antique shops, have lunch at The George, or listen to music at the Rye Jazz Festival. We love the town, and the tiny town hall, so much that we got married there ourselves. So photographing a wedding at Rye Town Hall is a lovely experience for me.

I don’t usually write about how couples book me, but the circumstances surrounding me photographing Harri & Nick’s wedding are quite bizarre and spooky. When Harri first enquired, I was booked for their date, so I sent her a bunch of other photographers to look at and that was that. 10 months later, Harri emailed me to say they’d been looking at my photos again, one having just popped up on instagram, and so she was checking on the absolute long shot that anything had changed with my booking for their date. Just a few days prior to her email, my couple for their date had postponed, which meant I was indeed free. Timing and fate!

So back to their wedding. Harri got ready at a nearby Airbnb before walking to the town hall with her dad, sister and bridesmaids. They were met by the town crier, the ceremony got underway, and was lived streamed back to some of Nick’s family in Australia. After the ceremony they were showered in eucalyptus leaves before walking down the hill to the Whitehouse, accompanied by the town crier ringing his bell. This is a lovely Rye tradition, and one that we had at our wedding (bonus pic at the end of this post!)
