Hotel du Vin Brighton Wedding // Ali & Nick

A Brighton wedding on an August afternoon…..  Regular followers of my blog may recognise Ali. Last summer, with a gloriously round 8 month bump, we took some pregnancy photos on Brighton beach and then some more a few weeks later when her gorgeous daughter Maisie was born. Ali and I have been friends for more than 20 years, so when she told me that her and Nick were getting married, in a very small ceremony attended by just a handful of immediate family and close friends, and would I photograph it, I was super excited. On a warm August morning, I headed down to Brighton for their wedding. Ali was getting ready at home with and her mum, dad, best friend Tasha, sister Rae (all who I have known since I was 14), niece and baby Maisie. Add a makeup artist and a hairdresser to that, and  the flat was a hive of activity. Once our gorgeous bride was dressed in her beautiful vintage number and vertiginous heels, we jumped in a cab and headed to the town hall.

On the way, our close friend Charley, (who couldn’t make it to the wedding due to the imminent arrival of baby number 3), texted to share the news that Sonny Bo had entered the world. Doubly special day! We arrived at the town hall, where a nervous Nick was waiting with best man Jake, along with the handful of guests. The ceremony was short, sweet and beautiful, and once all the official papers were signed, there was a flurry of confetti and congratulations and a short stroll through Brighton to the elegant Hotel du Vin. After a few glasses of champagne in the afternoon sun, everyone sat down in the hotel’s private dining room for lunch. Speeches followed, which were funny, touching and in the case of Nick, the most eloquent, honest, and heartfelt tribute to his new wife (yes I cried, but so did everyone else). A couple of hours later, the wedding party headed over to The Terraces,  where another 100 or so friends and family joined them for canapés, cocktails, cake and, towards the end of the night, some serious tearing up of the dance floor. I crawled back to my hotel at about 1am, having had a truly brilliant day. Congratulations to Ali and Nick, love you guys. x
