Why I love photographing weddings at Clapton Country Club

  • A treasure trove of salvaged and recycled furniture and decor
  • Interesting spaces which provide a great flow to a wedding day
  • Lots of exposed brick and twinkly lights
  • Plants galore
  • Needs very little in the way of styling or decor – it’s already there
  • It’s a very photogenic location

Don’t let the name fool you, this is ain’t no country club ( I apologise in advance if you now have Sheryl Crow playing in your head). Clapton Country Club is a very cool, industrial venue in East London, full of personality and eclectic style. It’s also steeped in history; from the land the venue is built on having once been owned by Henry VIII, to the Tram Depot being used to make wing parts for military aircraft during the Second World War. It was also bombed by the Luftwaffe, and impromptu air raid shelters were built inside (one of which has now been turned into a toilet!).

You can have your wedding ceremony and reception at Clapton Country Club, there is amazing indoor and outdoor space, and it has loads of quirky touches and decor. The inside has high ceilings, distressed brickwork and plants galore, and the outside space is a cute decked area, full of plants. Although there is a cobbled area this is shared with other buildings on the alley, so you can’t drink on it, but it can be used for some photos.

Department of Life

Across the courtyard is the equally fantastic Department of Life which you can hire as an add-on space in addition to the main building. You can have your ceremony in the DoL or just host the drinks reception. It is a beautiful space, full of rich, warm tones with a gorgeous 160 year aged-parquet floor and exposed brick. The owners describe the Department of Life’s interior as ‘inspired by a combination of nature and an Orwellian vibe of dystopia where nature reclaims the world”. It’s quirky, it’s cool, and it’s a downright brilliant place to hold your wedding.

And if that weren’t enough, there is also the Opium Room; a cosy little backroom tucked away from the main space. You can use this as a quieter area during the party, a separate drinking area, or a games room.

Some useful information for weddings at Clapton Country Club

  • Cost to hire – POA
  • Capacity 140 seated / 220 standing
  • Both venues are licensed for legal or humanist weddings. You can book your legal wedding via Hackney council
  • Licensed til 1am (Fridays and Saturdays)
  • Very limited parking onsite
  • Clapton Country club have their own super useful brochure which will answer all your questions
  • Use of their massive glitter ball included

Distressed brickwork, skip-salvaged decor, an abundance of plants, and an industrial vibe make this converted tram shed a unique wedding venue in the heart of east London.

We absolutely LOVE the photos. They’re wonderful. We got very emotional reliving all the moments. One spontaneously magical lived moment isn’t worth a hundred curated ‘detail’ shots! And that’s why you’re the best. Thank you so much!
