Edenham Church Wedding // Hannah & Patrick

Edenham is a tiny, picturesque Domesday village in rural Lincolnshire, and Edenham church is the focal point of the village, and indeed the whole community. On the last Saturday in August, the vicar’s daughter, the ethereal Hannah, married her Welsh surfer, the so-laid-back-he’s-horizontal Patrick. Back track to a few months before the wedding, I met with Hannah and Patrick in a London cafe to go through details of the day. It was the first time we had met, and I’d expected to have a quick coffee with them and a brief chat about the day. However, they insisted on buying me lunch, and over a few glasses of wine I got to know this lovely couple a bit more. I heard all about how they met, and watching them together it was clear this was a couple very much in love.

So back to the wedding day itself, Hannah and her bridesmaids got ready at the house whilst Patrick’s ushers and best man got ready across the road in Hannah’s brother’s cottage. The groom himself sauntered over to get ready about 10 minutes before the ceremony was due to start…. The one thing that can never be relied upon in this great country of ours is the weather. This particular day gave us some of the worst we experienced this summer. Indeed fellow wedding photographers compared stories of weather related disasters from this day; marquees collapsing, electrics short circuiting and the speeches taking place in the dark…. The rain was coming down hard, so it was a quick dash to the church where Hannah was walked up the aisle by her proud dad who had relinquished his duties that day to be beside his daughter.

Music was provided by some of the orchestra of the Welsh National Opera, of which Patrick is a member, and I had goosebumps as the brass section played. After the ceremony it was out into the garden for canapés and champagne. Some forward thinking individual had erected a gazebo which was fortunate as underneath it was the only place to be as the rain pelted down. Not to be deterred, the band played on and everyone had a grand old time before being called to dinner. Fino sherry and platters of Serrano ham and olives were enjoyed, as the paella man got cooking outside. On to the speeches, including a rousing singalong of Elvis’s ‘Suspicious Minds’, Patrick’s karaoke number. Everyone was up to join him and it was a hilarious, if not slightly surreal, end to the speeches. The WNO opened the evening party with some great music and the newly weds took to the floor for their first dance. As the thunder and lightening lit up the sky and the rain continued to fall, the party remained in full swing.

  1. Without hesitation Lyndsey you are the best photographer we could have ever worked with!! Every image captured a moment that we treasured!! I know I can’t stop saying it but thank you! Rain….what rain 🙂

  2. LOVE the black and whites in this Lyndsey. Also, the picture of the guy pouring without looking reminds me of a skill a friend of mine has…

  3. Great images, My favourites are the reception and the way you have captured the kids. Lovely image of dad and little girl with umbrella. It looks quite magical despite the rain.
