Bradford Town Hall Wedding

Bradford Town Hall Wedding // Erin & Indy

I first met Erin when she was bridesmaid for Vicki, who’s wedding I photographed in London back in 2011 (you can see Vicki and Rick’s London wedding here). Fast forward to May 2013 and I find myself making the (very long) journey to Bradford to photograph Erin and Indy’s day, having been promised all the curry and Belgian waffles I can eat (who wouldn’t travel 260 miles for that?!). Erin got ready at the stunning Midland Hotel, steeped in history, covered in beautiful Victorian tiles, and boasting famous guests including Laurel and Hardy, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and Dracula creator, Bram Stoker. It was good to see Vicki again, who was on bridesmaid duty, and the girls got ready aided by Buck’s Fizz and tea (Erin’s favourite tipple, a girl after my own heart). Erin had a lovely knee length dress and some rather fantastic plastic Vivienne Westwood ‘Melissa’ shoes, which had a very familiar smell, and after much deliberation we concluded  was 1980’s girls’ favourite plastic figure, Strawberry Shortcake. All showing our age here. On to Bradford registry office, where Indy was waiting for his bride. Erin walked in to one of my favourite songs,  ”Prettiest Eyes”, by the sadly disbanded ”The Beautiful South”. The ceremony was short, very sweet and followed by confetti and congratulations.

Next was a pit stop at Glyde House, beautifully decorated by Rachel at  Simply Vintage, for some champagne and canapés, before going over the road to Omar Khan’s for some very fine curry. Suitably fortified by delicious food and Cobra, it was back to Glyde House for a sit down afternoon tea and champagne, interspersed with speeches. Erin had made gingerbread people for every guest, which doubled up as their place name, and there were more amazing cupcakes than you could shake a stick at. Yum. Evening guests trickled in and enjoyed cake, fizz, Jenga and the aforementioned Belgian waffles. The evening kicked off with Erin and Indy cutting their truly original cake, which featured the couple as zombie killers, complete with slain victims and blood dripping down the cake. I have never seen such an original creation and doubt anything will top it. Everyone gathered round for the first dance, and whilst they began to perform a coy shuffle to Kylie and Jason’s ”Especially for You”, the guests eyed each other nervously. Unsurprisingly, this was not to be their first dance, and as the record screeched to a halt and some Bangla came on, Erin and Indy performed a pretty flawless Bollywood dance. A brilliant day up in Bradford for Erin and Indy’s wedding, favourites are below.

  1. This wedding really stood out for me Lyndsey, it’s really refreshing to see such a fun and individual wedding documented in this way. It’s also refreshing to see colour used so well. Having said that, it won’t be surprising to know that the image that hits the spot for me is the bride stood out the door with her dad. Beautifully lit, but lots of narrative going on there. Thanks Lyndsey, you’ve really spoiled us 🙂

  2. Lyndsey, thank you so much! Your photographs are amazing, and have captured our day so perfectly… I don’t know how you took some of them, you must have been everywhere at once and invisible to boot! We knew we were in safe hands after we saw Vicki and Rick’s pictures, but I could not have imagined how good our photographs would be and how seeing them would bring back all the emotions and memories of the day so clearly… as well as things we didn’t see or have forgotten. There are too many favourites to name already, but I can’t wait to see them all! Heartfelt thanks for perfect perfect photographs… Erin x

  3. Amazing photos. Great memories of a brilliant wedding. As Erin’s friend and also one of the bakers of the cakes I really appreciate the picture of the bride tucking into one of my creations. As a southerner myself I will be keeping you firmly in mind for the future!

  4. Beautiful & honest photos, you’ve definitely captured all the surprises and secrets of the day x

  5. Agree with Bob that this really is a stunner, and I’m not surprised your bride sends her heartfelt thanks – you deserve the praise. Love the use of height and width in your compositions, and your eye for a ‘moment’ is superb. Also admire how you’ve balanced capturing details alongside telling a story. Definitely a wedding to be proud of.

  6. What wonderful photos from a truly perfect day. I love the fact that none of the photos were staged and they all capture the day to a tee. I am slightly concerned by the champagne fuelled dancing photos at the end but again it just shows how much fun was had by all. When’s the next party? X

  7. i loved this lyndsey. love the heart shoes captured under the table, and the arches portraits are great. the general documentary work of guests and interactions is sublime, great use of colour and light, as ever.

  8. Great documentary work Lyndsey and a lovely mix of colour and B&W. I particularly like the
opening image, the couple portraits and the snooker photos.

  9. Awesome documentary work Lyndsey. You’ve captured the day effortlessly. Top drawer!!!

  10. Amazing as always! Love the Bingo shot, and the little girl in the big shoes! You always seem to spot these little details, and capture them in context.
