Wedding Photography at Fitzleroi Barn – Danielle and Steven

Fitzleroi Barn in West Sussex is a stunning venue for a barn wedding, and was the location for the April wedding of Danielle and Steven. Danielle got ready at a hotel with her bridesmaids before heading to St Mary’s church in Horsham. She arrived in style in her new father in law’s stunning white Rolls Royce, in weather that was wet and windy and not very pleasant at all, but Danielle took it all in her stride and could not wait to walk up the aisle and say ‘I do” to Steven. After the ceremony, everybody made their way to Fitzleroi Barn for champagne and celebrations. The barn looked beautiful with twinkly lights and gorgeous flowers. The wedding breakfast was preceded by fabulous antipasti, in recognition of Danielle’s Italian roots, and of course the Italian wedding tradition of the newlyweds standing up for a passionate kiss at any point during the dinner when guests bang glasses with spoons yelling ‘Baci!’. Speeches followed the meal, and shortly after the evening celebrations kicked off, led by amazing wedding band Passione. The couple had their first dance and were then joined on the dance floor by family and friends for an interactive, full on rendition of Grease favourite, ”Summer Lovin”’. Wedding Photography at Trinity House – Kate & Indy

I love a London wedding, and when you can see one of the City’s most iconic landmarks as you say your vows, you really do feel like you are at the heart of the City. Kate and Indy chose Trinity House, overlooking Tower Bridge, for their wedding day. It was a bitterly cold day, with snow flurries and an icy wind. The warmth of an American bride with a huge smile and the sweetest nature, plus the array of amazing Indian food made the atmosphere inside Trinity House feel anything but. The ceremony was touching and emotional, and incorporated the couple giving a specially designed ring to Kate’s daughter. Champagne and canapés preceded some of the most delicious Indian food I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating, provided by Cafe Spice Namasté (regular readers of my blog will know that I am a big fan of Indian feasts a wedding!). Speeches followed, and a few anecdotes and tributes to the couple from their friends and family, including a rather unique game where the blindfolded groom must identify his wife by the feel of her leg (in a line up of other, well, legs). Upon identifying his bride, he must then drink champagne out of her shoe. Good on Indy for playing by the rules! Marylebone Town Hall and 11 Cavendish Square Wedding Photography – Omra & Jolyn

Omra and Jolyn chose iconic Marylebone Town Hall for their London wedding ceremony, before heading on to the elegant 11 Cavendish Square for the reception. The day started with Omra, her mum and bridesmaids getting ready at The Bloomsbury Hotel, aided by a little champagne to calm the wedding days nerves. Omra looked stunning in a beautiful David Fielden dress, and with her Rachel Simpson shoes and chic up do she looked like a 1930′s film star. The couple said their vows in the Yellow Room in a small ceremony, watched by just their closest family and friends. After the ceremony, it was on to 11 Cavendish Square for drinks and nibbles and for more guests to arrive to celebrate with Omra and Jo. The venue is beautiful, and their florist had decorated the tables with blooms of daffodils and hyacinth and other spring flowers which looked and smelled divine. On to dinner, and then to the speeches. Not only have Omra and Jo been together for a very long time, best man John has been friends with Jo for a very long time, so was able to regale the guests with some hilarious stories about the groom. Shortly after, the dance floor was opened as the couple took to the floor for their first dance, cheered on by everyone else, before being joined by them. Wedding Photography at Notley Abbey – Alanna and Phil

Notley Abbey is one of Oxfordshire’s most romantic wedding venues and was the setting for Alanna and Phil’s wedding on a frosty and cold Friday in March. The girls got ready at Notley Abbey before heading to the local church for the ceremony. The chauffeur who’d been booked cancelled 10 minutes before he was due to pick Alanna and her father up, but that didn’t dampen this bride’s sunny mood. Alanna has a smile that lights up a room when she walks in and she was smiling all day. Once the ceremony had finished, everyone headed back to Notley Abbey for champagne and canapés before dinner in the beautiful barn. Speeches followed the dinner, which in turn was followed by dancing and even Alanna’s dad doing a stint on the decks, before the fantastic band, The Low Riders, got the party going. Wedding Photography at The Petersham and 6 St. Chad’s Place – Lex & Liam

London weddings have the capacity to be very original and unique, and there are so many venues available to a couple it can be hard to know where to choose. Lex and Liam, who’s wedding was my first of 2013, had no such problem when deciding where to marry. They choose the elegant and enviably positioned Petersham Hotel, as it was where Lex’s mum said her vows a few years previously. Their reception venue, which is one of may favourite London wedding venues to work at, 6 St Chad’s Place, was chosen as it’s so close to where they met and they could personalise it they way the wanted to. The day started with Lex and her bridesmaids getting ready before a white London taxi escorted them to The Petersham where a very nervous Liam was waiting. I find all the weddings I photograph emotional and very moving, but Lex and Liam’s was exceptionally so. I don’t think there was anyone in the room who didn’t shed a tear, and that included me and both the registrars. Guests enjoyed champagne and canapés at The Petersham before boarding a Routemaster which would take them on a journey from West to East, with an acoustic duo on board, a song sheet of East End classics, and a tea urn full of mulled cider to get everyone in the mood. On arrival at 6 St Chad’s Place, guests marvelled at the fantastic installation suspended from the ceiling, 1000 bright yellow origami ducks, inspired by the Japanese tradition of creating 1000 paper cranes to bring the couple 1000 tears of luck and prosperity. Lex and Liam made the cranes, and also all the stationary and personalised maps for the wedding day, and have since started their own company providing bespoke installations and wedding stationary, how we got here. The day progressed with dinner, speeches and lots of laughter. Evening entertainment was provided by John and Ruth of The Ruby Tones, who played some beautiful music to get everyone on the dance floor. A fantastic wedding to kick 2013 off with, and a truly wonderful and loved up couple made this cold Saturday in January a very special day.

Holdsworth House Wedding Photography – Rachel & Dan

Holdsworth House is a gorgeous country manor and one of Yorkshire’s top wedding venues. Built in 1598, it has provided a bed for many a famous guest including Jane Mansfield, The Beatles, The Small Faces, and the lovely Miss Cilla Black. On a rainy Saturday between Christmas and New Year, it played host to Rachel and Dan and their guests for their wedding celebrations. The day started at Rachel’s parents. Her poor dad was suffering with a terrible cold and greeted me at the door with a Lemsip in one hand and his speech in the other. Once the girls returned from the hairdressers it was all systems go; makeup up on, dresses on, and fortunately waterproof mascara on as the gift Rachel received from her parents had her and her 2 sisters in floods of tears. On to the church where a very nervous Dan was waiting for his bride. There was a small problem with the heating (there wasn’t any), and as the couple said their vows, I could see their breath. Beautiful ceremony over, we headed over to Holdsworth House for the reception. The fires were lit and the cosy rooms were a welcome respite from the bitter wind outside. On to the wedding breakfast and speeches, and an impromptu acapella performance by Rachel ( a music teacher with the voice of an angel) and 3 friends, which had everyone in stitches. Rachel and Dan opened the dance floor with their first dance, and everyone piled on to join them shortly afterwards. A great day with a great couple. Oaks Farm Wedding – Angela and Ferrice

The end of 2012 saw me heading to south London to photograph Angela and Ferrice’s big day. It started at a nearby hotel with Angela getting her hair and makeup done along with her sister and Ferrice’s daughter, aided by a few glasses of champagne to help calm the nerves. On to grade II listed building, the lovely Morden Park House for the wedding ceremony, where Angela was given away by her father and her two sons. Oaks Farm was the next stop, and there was a mad dash inside to avoid the torrential rain. The wedding breakfast was provided by the fabulous Burrell Catering who I have had the pleasure of working with before, and their West Indian and African cooking is delicious. A few speeches and the tradition of passing the mic around to family and friends to give the newly weds some words; be it words of wisdom, advice, an anecdote of growing up together or a cautionary tale, it’s a tradition I love at weddings. 2012 – A Year of Wedding Photography

2012. It was an epic year for the UK; the furious flag waving, cake baking and street partying of the Diamond Jubilee, the über excitement and pride at our success in the Olympics, the man who literally fell to earth, breaking records for the highest free fall ever…. it was also an epic year for Jo & James, Helen & Duncan, Lindsey & Alastair, Angela & Vincent, Katie & Sid, Richard & Tommas, Nicola & Michael, Michelle & Ben, Jane & Alan, Rob & Nick, Fiona & Chris, Amanda & David, Caroline & Troy, Janie & Olivier, Guilia & James, Katie & Paul, Emily & Tom, Lindsay & David, Cassandra & Raymond, Hannah & Patrick, Jessica & Paul, Aimeé & Andy, Audrey & Steve, Zee & Nameer, Louise & Kevin, Sinéad & Jon, Angela & Ferrice, Mel & Rob and Rachel & Dan because they all GOT MARRIED. I was the lucky photographer entrusted with documenting these couples’ big day, and travelled far and wide in order to do so. 2012 saw me in London, Berkshire, Lincolnshire, Surrey, Kent, Somerset, Hampshire, Gloucestershire, Leicestershire, Essex, Devon, Oxfordshire, Yorkshire, Sussex, and even sunny Spain. I photographed weddings in stately homes, country barns, city hotels, parents’ gardens, village churches, town halls, and in weather that sunk marquees, turned gardens into quagmires, had guests applying the factor 50 in the 40 degree heat, and yet unbelievably, avoided the snow! It’s been an amazing year and I’d like to thank all the couples who invited me into their lives to share their special day, along with their families and friends.
